style='font-size:13.0pt'>            Ở dưới kinh xáng tui nước cũng đã vào cuối
mùa rồi anh chị Hai. Những cánh đồng xa, đồng gần cá linh đang tìm mấy cựa gà,
mấy ngọn mương rút ra sông ráo trọi rồi anh chị ! Vả lại, mùa nước năm nay cá
linh cũng hổng nhiều như mấy mươi năm trước, nên dân giăng lưới, giăng câu bây
giờ cũng hổng mấy hăng hái, vui vẻ như những năm cá tôm nhiều hồi đời trước nhe
anh chị. Rồi đây, lật bật lại lo dọn đất phát rong chuẩn bị cho mùa sạ giống vụ
lúa Đông Xuân sắp tới, nên tui cũng lu bu quá mạng. Nói thì nói vậy, thưa anh
chị Hai, việc lớn nhỏ gì trong nhà, sắp nhỏ lo làm lo ăn chứ tuổi mình nay già
rồi, nếu có làm gì tiếp giúp tụi nhỏ chỉ là làm cho có, cho vui vậy thôi chứ
chuyện nặng nhọc mình làm hết nổi rồi anh chị Hai à.   Thế mới hiểu lúc tuổi già
sức yếu thường hay vô dụng lắm., phải hông anh chị ?</span></p>

style='font-size:13.0pt'>            Về mùa màng năm rồi, ở nhà tui có trồng mộ
số cây ăn trái như cốc, ổi, hồng giòn, cam quit, thanh long. Cốc và ổi thì bông
trái cũng bộn. Mà ngộ nhe anh chị, thời buổi này tui thấy người ta trồng trọt
không như thời anh em mình còn nhỏ cách nay sáu bảy chục năm. </span></p>

trước muốn trồng giống cây gì thì lấy hột làm giống mà ương cho lên cây rồi trồng.
Rồi dần dần, dân nhà vườn mới nghĩ ra cách chiết cành làm giống. Nhưng ngày nay
thì giống cây gì cũng trồng bằng cách ghép da tháp nhánh ráo trọi. Thành ra, cây
trái bây giờ là cây trái gốc rể một đàng ngọn nhánh một nẻo. Giống như đầu gà đít
vịt, không giống cây trái nào thuần giống như đời xửa đời xưa nhe anh chị Hai.
Hồi mấy năm xuống vùng Hỏa Lựu, Vị Thanh, tui thấy người ta ghép da cây mảng cầu
gai với gốc bình bát trái thôi là trái, nhưng khi ăn mảng cầu thì cái mùi vị bình
bát vẫn còn đa phần, do vậy, cái tinh túy nguyên thủy của mảng cầu gai nó mất đi
mấy chục phần trăm so với mảng cầu rặt. Thôi thì cũng đành chịu vậy chứ biết làm
sao bây giờ anh chị Hai.</span></p>

trại thành “u ru”. Số là hôm trước tui đọc báo mạng thấy tác giả Nguyễn Thị Hải
Hà viết trên Da Màu về cánh đồng quê của mình có nhắc ba cái vụ u du nhưng lại
ghi là “u ru”. Thấy tác giả ghi chưa chỉnh lắm tui mới ghi vài ba ý kiến theo cách
gọi tên nhà quê ruộng lúa xứ mình; nhưng rồi sau này, tình cờ đọc một bài nữa của
tac giả này, cũng trên Da Màu, thì lại thấy có nhắc tới cây u du và cũng kêu là
“u ru”. Thế mới biết việc tuy nhỏ như cây u du dù từ thường dân dốt nát tới sách
vở bác học đã gọi tên loại cây này như vậy rồi nhưng đâu phải ai cũng chịu sửa
cho trúng tên như dân ruộng mình thường gọi đâu anh !</span></p>

sắp nhỏ đi cắm câu dìa rồi vô ngồi đọc ba cái vụ <b>“u-ru”</b> của chị; tiện
thể có vài hàng này cùng chị. Ở miệt trên chị thì chị gọi cây u du thành <b>“u-ru”,
</b>nhưng<b> </b>miệt kinh xáng tụi tui thì ai ai cũng kêu giống cỏ này là u du

theo kiểu nhà quê tụi tui, và gọi giống cỏ đa niên này như vậy. Chứ hồi nhỏ tụi
tui hồi còn đi học, có đọc sách của thầy Phạm Hoàng Hộ thì tui nhớ, nếu không
lầm, thì u du có cả thảy bảy loại khác nhau, như trí nhớ mang máng của tui như

cái hồi thời cuộc êm êm một chút, dù còn đang tản cư nơi quê ngoại trên Mặc Cần
Dưng, nhưng tía má tui cho tui đi học Sơ Học tại cua Vàm Nha gần sóc Miên, rồi
ra học tại trường Tiểu Học Bổ Túc Hổn Hợp Bình Hòa, trường cất kế bên đình thần
làng Bình Hòa (Mặc Cần Dưng). Vậy mà rồi lò mò tui cũng có được cái bằng Tiểu Học
giắt lưng sống và làm ruộng qua ngày hơn năm sáu chục năm qua, và cũng nhờ đó mà
biết thế nào là u du, là lác voi, lác nước, lác các, cỏ chỉ, cỏ mồm, cỏ lông
heo, cỏ gạo…Tui nghĩ đó là cái nền tảng của một đời nông dân của mình, một cái
nền có học dù chỉ học tới bậc Tiểu Học cách nay hơn nửa thế kỷ . So với Kỷ Sư,
Bác Sĩ, Luật Sư, Tiến Sĩ ngày xưa cũng như ngày nay, thì cái tờ giấy ố vàng này
chẳng ra gì nhưng với dân ruộng mình, tui nghĩ chỉ cần cái văn bằng Tiểu Học là
cũng tám tạm rồi vậy. Tui xin gởi kèm theo đây bản sao cái Văn Bằng Tiểu Học hồi
những năm 1956, 1958 để anh coi chơi cho đở buồn:</span></p>
