xôi thuộc huyện Đông này, từ người già cho tới đứa con nít ai cũng biết anh Tư
Đờn. Chẳng phải nổi tiếng do tên cúng cơm&nbsp; cha anh vì yêu nghề kéo đờn đám
tang đặt mà bởi tính tình và hình dạng anh hơi khác người. Tuổi tác chưa tới
năm mươi mà chuyên mặc bà ba trắng, ưa đi guốc vông, đặc biệt trên đầu để một
búi tó nhõng nhảnh cỡ củ tỏi trông thật lạ lùng. Tư Đờn thích nghe những chuyện
thuộc loại huyền bí, tâm linh, hoang đường và rất tin tưởng vào các thầy bói
toán tìm tài vật. Quan hệ chòm xóm tốt, gia đình tưong đối êm ấm tuy anh có máu
gia trưởng một chút, một chút thôi…</span></p>

lệ, khoảng gần 5 giờ sáng là quán bà Năm đã đông khách, chủ yếu người trong xóm

thững bước vào, xa xa trông anh giống hệt một lão già với dáng đi khệnh khạng,
lừng khừng. Qua ngạch cửa vấp phải ông Địa, ông Thần tài kê trên mấy cục gạch
đau điếng, anh đổ quạu&nbsp; lớn tiếng:</span></p>

thoáng khách đang bàn tán về chuyện Mười Tròn ấp bên vừa mở trại mộc lớn, Tư
Đờn gọi nhanh ly cà phê rồi ngồi xuống đưa tin sốt dẻo:</span></p>

vèo lên tận ngọn, gặp những cua dốc đứng anh nhắm tít mắt, trống ngực dồn dập,
miệng lâm râm bài kinh cứu nạn. Thắp nhang chỗ di tích Thạch đại đao xong, ngắm
cảnh một lúc anh lột guốc cầm tay lò dò leo lên ngọn Ông Tà. Anh thành kính
khấn vái ơn trên độ trì mạnh giỏi và mau…giàu có bằng của hoạnh tài. Trở xuống
gần tới chân núi, tình cờ gặp một vị “tu sĩ ẩn cư” xương xẩu ngồi tham thiền
bên hốc đá, lạnh lùng đưa tay ngoắc, anh giật mình kinh sợ riu ríu nghe theo.
Quan sát cảnh rêu phong cùng những dòng chữ Tây Tàu lộn xộn, hình thù kỳ quái
vẽ trên các tảng đá hùng vĩ, Tư Đờn choáng váng cho rằng mình đã gặp kỳ nhân.
Hỏi kỹ tuổi tác, gia cảnh cùng hướng nhà anh, thầy bấm đốt tay ngẫm nghĩ rồi
kêu lên sững sốt :</span></p>

theo thằng đệ tử chừng 15 tuổi, gầy nhom chẳng kém thầy. Chiều về tới nhà,
trong lúc Tư Đờn hối vợ con chuẩn bị tiếp đãi thì thầy chắp tay sau lưng đi từ
trước ra sau, vào cả buồng ngủ theo bản năng nghề nghiệp. Ngồi vào bàn nước,
